Fall Adventure | Luna's 1st Mtn Hike | Hiking Eldorado Springs State Park, CO

A couple weeks ago we took Luna, our 2 year old Great Pyrenese/Collie mix hiking in the mountains for the first time.

She loved the hiking!  The car ride, not so much.  She managed to puke three times, luckily it consisted only of dog food so it didn't smell and it landed on the rubber mat in the back of the truck (thank you WeatherTech!).  TMI, I know.

Our intent had been to go up to Rainbow Lakes, but that was more than an hour drive and we quickly realized Luna wasn't going to handle that well.  We made one stop at Boulder Canyon so we could clean up mess #1 and give her a small break from the car, then headed to Eldorado Springs State Park.  Much closer and better road.

It was a beautiful day and Luna really enjoyed the hike.  We'll just have to figure out what to do about her car sickness.

Next time we'll bring Bleu, our standard poodle.  Unfortunately, Libby, our golden retriever, lost her eye sight about 6 months ago to glaucoma.  She does fine in the house and on our daily walks on the pavement with the other dogs to guide her, but she can no longer go on trails and uneven terrain.  We leave one dog home with her while the other gets to go on an adventure.

Singin' In The Rain

We are receiving some much needed precipitation.  Last night we took the dogs for a walk in a steady rain.  The thunder rumbled and there were a few flashes of lightening off in the distance, but it wasn't too cold.  Luna especially loved traipsing through the puddles.  We were drenched but very refreshed!

Our furry baby turned 2 years old yesterday (Friday 4/20).  While she may be the baby, she's 105 lbs of brute muscle and a teddy bear all-in-one.

Yes, I made her pose with a crown and a couple leis.  She was none too happy about it.  But she humored me.  I think I offended her sensibilities.

Yes, that's raw hide goop around her mouth (all the white stuff).  She had a lot of treats on her birthday, including a taste or two of the fatty meat from some ribeye steaks we had grilled a few days ago.  Our dogs seldom get people food.  She was in heaven.

And, Yes, we had her shaved about 3 weeks ago.  She looks a little dorky (we keep that to ourselves), but she loves how it feels and I love the lack of loose hair in the house!  See pictures of her normal mane here and here.

Winter Wonderland

Over the last two days we've received about a foot of snow, with 2-4 more inches forecast for tonight.  Since our human babies have flown the coop, I have to take photos of our fur babies--and my hubby.

We were out playing in the snow and I snapped a few shots of the dogs playing in the powdery white stuff.  They had a blast...well, Luna and Libby did.  Bleu is not overly fond of the cold on her feet.  Nor does she like to pose for me and my camera.  Libby and Luna are hams.

Oh, and I'm LOVING my new camera!

Happy Birthday Luna!

Today is Luna's 1st birthday!  We're guessing she's about 110 pounds.  And, while we call her looney Luna (which is much deserved) we love her.
